Five years of music and friendship
The Northern Session started with a simple passion: to build an approachable, open folk circle in Aberdeen where traditional players of all backgrounds and ability levels can gather. Half a decade later, we remain committed to warmth, encouragement, and the shared joy of live acoustic music.
An open circle for every player
We believe traditional music thrives when everyone feels welcome to participate. From fast-paced reels and jigs to soulful slow airs and choruses, every session is shaped by the musicians who turn up.
"Moving to Aberdeen was intimidating until I found The Northern Session. Everyone made me feel welcome right from the very first jig."
Session regular
"A genuinely warm and supportive atmosphere. There is no ego here—just great tunes, wonderful laughter, and friendly people."
Visiting fiddler
"Even as someone who does not play an instrument, spending an evening listening to the music with a drink is one of the best nights out in town."
